I ordered a Bloody Mary and it was so filled with pepper I could barely drink it-poorly made. The place is small and kinda hard to get around in. Once we made it to the next room, another waitress yelled at us to go to the gift shop. Then, we had a waiter yell at us to go through a couple rooms. We stood there wondering which area we were supposed to head to because it's like a maze in the place. Plus, when you first walk in, where are you supposed to go? There are no signs. On the back of their menus, it states that this 18% gratuity will be automatically added for parties of 8 or more, which is very typical of every other restaurant we've eaten in. Then, when we paid our bill, our waitress failed to bring us our coin change-adding another dollar or two to the already inflated tip for a party of four. We were all taken aback when our waitress, Mary, gave us the bill, letting us know we "didn't have to worry about a tip because it was included in the bill". We had a party of four and all of us ended up ordering an italian dish. Keep the kitsch, the tacky Christmas decor, and the yummy food. I hope it never goes "upscale" as the Dunes has done. The Christmas ornaments that dangle from the ceiing deserve their own review, as do the wall murals and bathroom paintings. Supper is pricier, but being cheapskates, we often eat out in the middle of the day and eat in the cottage or grab a sandwich at night. We also adore their lunch specials and their Cobb salad. Their breakfasts are phenomenal, particulary the country ham (yes, the salty kind, northerners!) and their Belgian waffle covered with fresh fruit. My husband and I are two of the many retirees who are often maligned on this site, frequent guests to the Outer Banks, and Jolly Roger is a must-visit stop for us. I am tempted to say that the place is a dump, the food is uninspired, and the service is mediocre. So warm up your voice and head over to the Jolly Roger in Kill Devil Hills.I hesitate to write this review, knowing that many tourists will read tripadvisor and choose their restaurants from these comments.
